Not Your Mama's Macworld 2010

It's finally here! Sort of. I'm talking about the long anticipated absence of Macworld in January. For the first time since what seems like forever, there is no January keynote with Steve Jobs opening keynote. Actually, Steve wasn't there last year either but henceforth, Apple has declared its corporate absence from all Macworld expos.

Whether this annual mecca will see the same plight as Boston Macworld after Apple pulled out is yet to be seen. For now, the San Francisco counterpart will be held February 9-13, 2010.

Normally there is a sharp spike in Macworld rumors in November and December as everyone attempts to trump Steve with his own new product announcements. The master presenter has not totally forgotten the faithful. A semi-private January 26th event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco is said to focus on mobile products. That tidbit is enough to feed rumor mills . Already people are spewing out tablet dimensions and device content.

Taking a page from Apple, Google will host its own in-house media event on January 5 to announce the Nexus One with Google-branded Android phone.
