Preflight

In the field of graphic design, preflighting is a manual or automated process to evaluate digital files for anomalies. This can include but is not limited to, conflicting color spaces within one document, images that lack sufficient resolution for output at the target size, have missing or corrupted fonts, misapplied color overprinting settings, sufficient bleed, proper scaling, etc.

Adobe InDesign products (InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat) include Preflight commands. Reactive Imaging recommends that customers utilize these features to eliminate unnecessary delays. Third-party preflight software is also available from Markzware called Flightcheck. Software products from other vendors are available for designers and printing companies.

Reactive Imaging routinely checks documents for obvious omissions. However, responsibility for proper file preparation rests with the designer.
