Resin-coated paper has an origin in traditional photography darkrooms. In the digital era, special coatings allow ink to adhere to the surface -- dye inks better than pigment. All glossy papers are RC papers. The surface coating prevents ink from absorbing deep into the paper. Colors remain vibrant but the surface should be well protected to prevent scratches.
